Needle & Thread Seattle's Intimate Speakeasy & Bespoke Cocktail Bar

Hidden above Tavern Law on Seattle's Capitol Hill, Needle & Thread is a reservation-only speakeasy where the cocktail menu doesn't exist, at least not in print. Your bartender learns your tastes, your mood, and the flavors you love, then builds your drink from scratch. Enter through a vault door, reached by picking up an antique telephone in the back of Tavern Law. Every visit is one of a kind.

How it works

There is no printed menu at Needle & Thread. Instead, your bartender begins every round with a few questions: What spirits do you love? How do you like your drinks — spirit-forward or citrus-driven, smoky or bright, rich or dry? Any flavors you'd rather avoid? From your answers, they'll compose something completely original, finished to order, and unlike anything you'll find on any menu in the city.

Step 1: Reserve your table via OpenTable (parties up to 6, up to 6 days ahead)
Step 2: Enter Tavern Law downstairs and find the antique telephone in the back
Step 3: Pick up the phone. A voice will answer. A door will unlock.
Step 4: Walk up the stairs into the speakeasy. Your bartender is ready.
Step 5: Share your tastes. Your first cocktail arrives in minutes.

The Experience

Needle & Thread seats up to 36 guests in a candlelit room of antique furniture, dark wood, and warm conversation. The backbar is curated, not encyclopedic, every spirit on the shelf was chosen because it makes better cocktails, not because it fills space. Each round is adjusted to your liking. If the first drink isn't exactly right, your bartender refines it until it is. We'll jot your order on your coaster, and you can take it home as a recipe if you'd like to try it yourself.

The Vault Door & Telephone Entrance

Entry to Needle & Thread is through Tavern Law. In the back corner of the main bar, you'll find a vintage telephone mounted to the wall. Pick it up. Someone on the other end will unlock the vault door. Walk up the stairs. The ritual of entry is part of the experience, the same discreet, earned arrival that defined the original American speakeasy, and it sets the tone before you've taken your first sip. First-timers are welcome to ask staff downstairs for help finding it.

Entry into Tavern Law and Needle & Thread is 21+. Guests visiting from outside the country must present a valid passport to gain entry. Canadian government-issued ID is also acceptable. (Local legal identification requirements apply; please bring appropriate ID.)
